We Offer Hand Carved Treenware: Bowls, Platters & Trenchers, Spoons & An Assortment of Utility Implements. Some bowls are, literally, works of fine art. All are collectible, carved from single pieces of wood with hand adzes and crooked knifes of traditional style. Most are in shapes other than round. Varying in size from a few inches to a few feet (bowls of a metre or more in length are available on special order), all bowls are the signed production of master carver Homer Kizer.
The treenware (small items made from trees without first becoming lumber) we supply satisfies a niche that has developed between the round bowls of bowl mills, the mass marketers importing second-quality woodware, and the antiques market. The treenware we supply is made from American hardwoods, in Kinde, Michigan, and made with patience and skill and a reasonable amount of sweat. The treenware begins as lengths of hardwood placed on a stump and roughly shaped with ax and adze. Most blocks behave themselves nicely and become the artifacts of tomorrow. A few return to being firewood. Thus, every piece is one-of, signed and dated.
All of our treenware is food safe, and is not made to merely decorate walls or buffet tables. Your satisfaction is our guarantee of success. We believe every product offered is of high quality and perfectly satisfactory. We believe you will feel the same. We thank you in advance for your order. Michigan Treenware began as a solution to a problems--we hope to be a solution to your problem of finding quality treenware that will pass historical period muster while becoming tomorrow's heirlooms.
